Friday, August 11th, 2017

AT&T has added a new cell tower to its 4G LTE network on Hilton Head Island to give customers faster, more reliable wireless service. The new site is located at Islanders Beach Park.
Our investment will help customers get the most out of their mobile devices. With 4G LTE service, customers will experience better network connectivity while streaming videos, sharing on social media or texting family and friends.
“From sailing vessels to steam ships to the combustion engine, new technologies that bridge distances are usually seen as the key to new opportunities and possibilities for individuals and their families,” said state Sen. Tom Davis. “That’s what broadband does today in keeping people connected and delivering opportunities for economic and personal growth in an information-age economy. This enhancement to the wireless network here on Hilton Head Island illustrates why I strongly believe in the need for sound public policies that encourage private investment in advanced technology.”
“As visitors from all over the world come to our area, it is appropriate that we should have a world-class communications network serving their needs and the needs of year-round residents and businesses,” said state Rep. Jeff Bradley. “With more and more people relying on smartphones and tablets to connect to the Internet, conduct business and stay in touch with friend and families, the additional capacity which this new tower will deliver is welcome. Announcements like this show that the General Assembly’s commitment to encouraging private investment in advanced technology is paying off for the people of South Carolina.”
We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. This helps South Carolina residents get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play.
“We want our customers to have a great experience. They’ll be able to download, upload, stream and play games faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network— which is the nation’s best data network1,” said Jack Mitchell, AT&T Regional Director of External Affairs. “We’re always working to provide better coverage. And we’re investing in our wireless network to accomplish that.”
By building out our 4G LTE network, we are laying the foundation for our 5G Evolution, the next advance in network technologies. We are increasing network speeds and capacity, as we continue to expand the availability and capacity of our network using the latest technology.
At AT&T, we’ve invested more than $800 million in our South Carolina wireless and wired networks during 2014-2016. These investments drive a wide range of upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and responders.
During 2014-2016, AT&T made the following investments in its wireless and wired networks:

More than $120 million in the Charleston area;

More than $175 million in the Columbia area; and

More than $120 million in the Greenville area.
In 2016, AT&T made more than 2,500 wireless network upgrades in South Carolina.
