Team Race Midwinter Championship to be Held at the South Carolina Yacht Club January 12th- 15th

The South Carolina Yacht Club is proud to announce the TEAM RACE MIDWINTER CHAMPIONSHIP to be held at the South Carolina Yacht Club, on January 12th- 15th, 2018.

The South Carolina Yacht Club, formed in 1989, is the Jewel of the Carolina Sailing community. Located in beautiful Windmill Harbour in Hilton Head Island, the club boost over 500 members and a thriving year around sailing community comprised of junior sailing, PHRF vessels, Club One Design, Regional and now National regattas.

The participants of this regatta are sailors from over 15 regional and national teams, representing the entire North America region. Additionally this race will serve as the QUALIFIER for the 2018 Trofeo Marco Rizzoti Team Race Regatta. This is the first time that a National team Event, is being held in the Carolina’s and specifically in the Low Country.

With over 110 of the highest skilled youth sailors in North America participating, plus their coaching staffs, Partner Yacht Club representatives, families and regatta staffing, we anticipate well over 225 total guest attendance in the Low Country.

With Sponsorship from the Hilton Head Island Sailing Academy, Tthe Richardson Group, Sonesta Hilton Head Resort, The Windmill Harbour Marina MOA, The Windmill Harbour POA, Highsmith Construction, Taylor Made Electric, Barrier Island Marine, Local Pie and Coligny Plaza. With hosting this event the Low Country to bring national exposure to the sport of sailing in our Area.

The Boats

The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15. Nowadays boats are usually made of fiberglass, although wooden boats are still built. The Optimist is recognized as an International Class by the International Sailing Federation.
