Sanford Opposes Omnibus Spending Bill
Friday, March 23rd, 2018
Representative Mark Sanford released the following statement on the omnibus spending bill that the House of Representatives passed:
“In avoiding a sixth continuing resolution in as many months, the House today passed a spending bill that was horrific. From a process standpoint, it’s impossible to read, digest, and analyze a 2,200-page bill just 16 hours after the text is released. Certainly, there is no time to debate or discuss its merits with colleagues or constituents. It’s a mistake to require a vote on something that could not possibly have been properly vetted by the vast majority of the very people who are to vote on it.
“From a policy standpoint, the bill fared no better. It spends more than the country can afford. Instead of trying to offset the increases in military spending with cuts elsewhere in the budget, the bill went the easier route of simply increasing spending on all too many areas of government. As such, I voted against it.”
