Dr. Margaret Gilmore Named Allendale County School District Interim Superintendent
Tuesday, April 24th, 2018
State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman has named Dr. Margaret Gilmore as interim district superintendent in the Allendale County School District effective July 1, 2018.
"Dr. Gilmore is a tremendous leader whose work in Allendale over the past year has been a key component in making the needed changes in the district so that students can be successful," said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman. "I know as the interim superintendent, the students, teachers, and Allendale community will be in good hands."
Dr. Gilmore has served as a transformation coach in the Allendale County School District since Superintendent Spearman took charge of the district in 2017 as the result of chronic academic under performance and financial mismanagement concerns. Alongside, Dr. Walt Tobin, the current interim superintendent, Dr. Gilmore has overseen the Allendale school and district turnaround efforts, provided professional development for teachers and staff through an instructional process known as "The Allendale Six", and led leadership development and capacity building for Allendale school principals and district office staff in support of increased student outcomes.
Dr. Gilmore received a B.S. degree in Elementary and Special Education as well as a Masters in Education from Arkansas State University. She then went on to obtain a doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Memphis. Margaret holds South Carolina teacher, principal, and superintendent certifications.
Dr. Walt Tobin, who has served as interim superintendent since state intervention began, will have fulfilled his one year commitment at the end of the current school year and will no longer be serving in the district.
"I am so thankful for Walt's dedication and service to Allendale over the past year," said Superintendent Spearman. "His experience and previous work in the community made him a perfect fit for the transition period. He is leaving the district having made significant progress."
