LearningMate, an education technology and data science company, was awarded a contract by the South Carolina Department of Education to implement the Academic Competencies Management Tool to digitally transform how they manage and deliver their education competencies and standards.
Designed to support State Education Agencies and districts with the process of creating, maintaining, and publishing digital state academic standards and competencies, ACMT is the central piece in SCDE's mission to provide leadership, support, and effective communication so that all students graduate prepared for success.
"Our fundamental responsibility as the State Department of Education is to clearly communicate standards and expectations across our state. As we've implemented new technologies and processes, it's become increasingly difficult to manage massive amounts of learning assets and metadata as well as ensure content and data are seamlessly shared across states, districts, and LMSs," said Daniel Ralyea, Director, Office of Research & Data Analysis at SCDE. "We had a vision to develop a centralized unit planning tool that would meaningfully blend lesson development, collaboration, and asset sharing in a digital environment that linked systems across the state. By shifting our standards to an all-digital format, we're taking the critical first step in supporting our education process. ACMT delivers on our vision by providing a system that not only authors and describes standards using metadata, but ensures our standards are consumable in a machine-readable format."
ACMT also supports the IMS Global Competencies & Academic Standards Exchange (CASE) specification, specifically the REST/JSON Binding version 1.0, which allows the authoring entity to be the authoritative digital source for competencies and standards. As an innovative enabler for education technology, ACMT enables other teaching and learning systems used by SCDE and districts to directly access authoritative versions of standards and competencies through APIs.
"We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with SCDE to support their game-changing initiative which will positively impact students and enable personalize learning," said Mark Masterson, Vice President, Government Solutions. "By providing states with an auditable, consistent process for standards maintenance and personalized views of published standards, we enable them to become the authoritative source for machine-readable standards."
ACMT provides states and districts with custom academic standards and competencies workflows, fully-searchable digital standards, reporting dashboards, and user management functionalities, all of which will help SCDE deliver on their mission to clearly communicate with stakeholders and openly share resources.
