Momentum Building for Launch of ‘7 Days of Giving’

Seven charities throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry and Georgia’s Coastal Empire are gearing up for the inaugural 7 Days of Giving campaign, which kicks off June 1.
7 Days of Giving is a week-long campaign designed to raise awareness — and funds — for seven local charities in the region by using social media and networking to spread the organization’s stories and encourage small-dollar contributions. The campaign is building momentum leading up to the official launch, as organizers have appeared on “WTOC’s Mid-Morning Live” as well as local radio and television programs.
Beginning June 1, a different local charity will be featured at 7daysofgiving.com each day. Visitors to the website will find stories, photos, and videos describing the organizations’ impact on their community, as well as a link to easily donate. While users may donate any amount, the campaign specifically targets smaller donations — the default options are $3, $5, and $10.
By focusing on online micro-donations, 7 Days of Giving aims to empower supporters to break down stereotypical barriers to philanthropy and demonstrate the campaign’s philosophy that “when we all give a little, we can do a lot.”
“The goal of the campaign is to revolutionize charitable giving, eliminating socio-economic divisions and helping communities understand that the small efforts of individuals — when taken as a group — can have a significant impact on a region,” said Hal Bailey, Chief Revenue Officer for LaterPay, which has organized the campaign.
LaterPay is a revolutionary software that allows users to capitalize on the impulse to do good after audiences read or view a story about an organization working to better the local community.
By strategically using social media to spread the word about these organizations that are making a positive impact in their communities, the project will focus on generating micro-donations from a large number of community members — rather than relying on larger gifts from individuals — which will help donors realize the incredible impact they can have to effect change when working together as a community.
