The Lowcountry Regional Transportation Authority (LRTA), operator of the Palmetto Breeze regional transit system and The Breeze seasonal trolley service, has issued the attached Proclamation regarding its organization-wide response to the COVID-19 crisis.

LRTA Board Chairperson Susan Zellman (Beaufort County) said, “In these difficult times, Palmetto Breeze understands the importance of maintaining public transportation for the passengers who rely on us every day. Our commitment is always to operate a safe, efficient and clean transit system. Palmetto Breeze is continuing to monitor COVID-19 developments across the Lowcountry, the State of South Carolina, and the entire country, while providing commuter bus service, demand response and paratransit service at our current levels unless a roll back of service is necessary.”

Zellman added, “We are doing our part at LRTA to ensure the citizens of the communities we serve can rely on Palmetto Breeze to transport them safely to and from their destinations. We call on all citizens, government agencies, private businesses, non-profit organizations, and other groups to join in activities and take action to stay safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic by social distancing, frequent handwashing, and self-isolation if symptomatic.”

To date, Palmetto Breeze has temporarily discontinued only three routes due to the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic: those which serve the USCB campuses in Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, the Daufuskie Island Ferry in Bluffton, and the Palmetto Bluff area.
